Their
hair is short and fine during the summer, but they can adapt
to colder climates by producing a thick, woolly undercoat.
They are hardy goats, thriving as well in heat and humidity
as extreme coldBecause of their small size, these goats are
economically raised and easy to care for. Their docile temperament
and fun loving actions make them a perfect family pet. The
African Pygmy exists in small numbers worldwide.
We
have seen these goats throughout Africa, where they are kept
roaming the village dust tracks, houses and yards, in search
of food, which may well consist of cardboard boxes, as well
as waste food. Although they are not kept for milk production
in the UK, in Africa both meat and milk is the reason for
their presence.
They
are very mischievous little goats, great fun and easy to keep,
but they do require good quality mixed food and dry conditions.
Sometimes they are quite difficult to find in the UK, and
can fetch a very high price - the African friends we have
would be amazed that their little goats can fetch up to £200!
A lifetime of wealth out there!
