At
Exmoor Owl and Hawk Centre we focus on your enjoyment at interacting
with the birds of prey in a safe environment. We enjoy allowing
the birds and animals at the Centre to have a good quality of
life, while we watch, and they train us how to allow them to
behave in as natural a way as possible. We all can learn a great
deal from our companion birds and animals.
We
have a large collection of owls and birds of prey, with perhaps
the best collection of flying owls in the country, ...... plus
hawks, eagle, kookaburra and palm nut vulture. Many of the owls
are not flown at other centres and make very special experiences.
Our
birds are amazing flyers - they love it. In their training
we have taken what they show us and enhanced this behaviour,
to create some incredibe flights. As the birds experiment
more with their skills, they increase their self confidence,
and then show us even more. Training these birds is a privilege,
exciting, and inspirational. Come and enjoy them with us.

EXMOOR OWL AND HAWK CENTRE
ZOO INSPECTORS REPORT 29TH JUNE 2011
As we are a designated zoo we have detailed and thorough inspections
every three years from the West Somerset Council and from a Defra
appointed veterinary inspector. Our recent inspection was carried
out in May 2011. We are delighted to have received an outstanding
report from our recent Zoo Inspection, which we would like to
share with you:
The Inspectors wish to congratulate the proprietors on the
attractive, friendly and varied nature of the Owl and Hawk Centre.
The birds were being kept in very clean environments, and were
in very good health. The surrounding farm buildings are of great
interest. There is a range of activities for visitors to undertake.
The development of the linhay as a centre for spreading awareness
of the Exmoor environment, including to people not visiting the
animal areas, is to be applauded.
The audio-visual presentation associated with the flying owl display
(11.30 display) in the barn is original, inspiring, and attractive.
The Centre is making its necessary conservation contribution mainly
through its educational and public awareness work.
TEN
GOOD REASONS why you should book your falconry activity
with us!
We
have been running successfully for 19 years, and working
with animals and birds of prey for over 25 years
We were one of the first falconry and owl centres to
offer birds of prey experiences, and are recognised
leaders in this field
We have a zoo licence, undergo regular inspections,
and keep all our birds of prey, owls and animals according
to zoo licencing recommendations
None of our birds of prey or owls are tethered, all
are kept in aviaries and flown out of their aviaries
We have third party insurance to £5 million for your
protection when flying our birds of prey
We have one of the most diverse collections of flown
owls in the country, including some really special owls
which you can fly
You can fly as many as 12 different birds of prey or
owls during a Bird of Prey Experience day with us -
not just one or two!
We are located in one of the most beautiful parts of
the country for flying our birds of prey
You can stay B&B in our magnificent 15th century
farmhouse when you fly with us. All refreshments are
provided by ourselves to the same high standards.
All
our falconry activities with the birds of prey are
hands on and interactive, so you experience the thrill
of flying the birds - our experiences are about you
and the birds
All
our birds of prey and owls are housed in aviaries, and are
flown daily unless in moult or rest break
The
Bird of Prey and Falconry Centre will be closed to all activities
from 2nd January to 12th February, and the birds of prey
and owls are given a much needed holiday. To do this they
are 'fed up' to ensure they have a happy rest period.
View our booklet on our Owls and Birds of Prey. You can
even print this off before your visit if you wish.
