'Gimley'

The Kestrel in our most common falcon and widespread resident over Britain and Ireland. They are found in a variety of places including open or lightly wooded farmland, moors, wetlands and urban areas.

The female is slightly larger than the male. Both are brownish on the upper parts, the male being more rufous and have a blue-grey head and tail. Kestrels hover frequently and is probably most often seen hovering alongside motorway and road verges.

The kestrel’s main prey is small mammals especially voles.
